I will focus today’s reflection on duties of children to their parents, humility, giving to the poor (Alms giving) and also see what wisdom has for us as a teacher. In the previous day, I focused the reflection on self control, wisdom, faithfulness and reverence for God.
Jesus the son of Sirach today, explains the rewards of children when the carry out their duties to their parents. He also says, it is the easiest way of making up for one’s sins earning great wealth (3.12-3.14).
Another way is giving alms to the poor (3.30). You will also learn today, the reward of humility and the teachings of wisdom.

REFLECTIONS, WISE QUOTES AND FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR TODAY
(Mediate over these words of wisdom)
1. Is it an obligation for children to obey their parents?
Yes it is because the Lord has given fathers authority over children and given children the obligation to obey their mothers (3.2)
2. What is the easiest way of making up for your sins and earning great wealth?
Simply, by respecting your father and honouring your mother (3:3-3.4).
And also by giving to the poor (3.30), and also by showing kindness to them at their old age (3.12-3.14).
3. Where does your honour and disgrace come from?
Your honour comes from the respect that you show to your father and you earn disgrace when you dishonor your mother (3.11). In other words, you earn honour when you respect your parents and earn disgrace when you dishonor and abandon them (3.16)
4. What do God and men appreciate more in you?
God and men always appreciate your humility more than gifts. Never change your attitude toward God or man when you are being promoted or ranked high in the society. (3.17-3.18)
5. Why are you always misled by their own opinions and judgment?
Because you try to understand and investigate matters that are beyond your power to know. Concentrate on the Law which has been given to you. Never think about the thing which the Lord has not revealed to you (3.21-3.24).
6. Have you ever wondered why intelligent people always know more?
Because they listen very carefully to parables and proverbs and learn from them (3.29). So if you want to be intelligent and wise, listen and learn from parables and proverbs. They are great sources of wisdom.
7. Do you know that annoying a poor person can bring you a curse?
Yes, if you annoy him that he becomes so bitter to curse you, God will hear his prayer. So be warned!
8. Have you ever thought why wisdom is difficult to acquire?
Because the discipline she demands are tormenting. Sometimes you will be put to the test with her requirements until she trusts you completely. Only then will you get her and know her secrets. But most times, you go astray and she will abandon you to your own run (4.17-4.19)
CLOSING PRAYER FOR TODAY
