INTRODUCTION

Today’s reflection focuses on self confidence, friendship, sincerity and self control the effects of being presumptuous and finally, learning from wisdom.

Jesus teachers us today, the DOs and DON’Ts in friendship which we must adhere to in order to maintain cordial relationship with one another.

He went further to explain self confidence, sincerity and self-control with their advantages.

You will also learn today, the negative effects of being presumptuous and finally, we will learn from wisdom.

REFLECTIONS, WISE QUOTES AND FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR TODAY

(Meditate over these words of wisdom)

1. How can you take advantages of opportunities and still guard yourself against evil? 

You can achieve these by:
a) Not letting others have their way at your expenses (4.22)
b) Speaking out when the occasion calls for it (4.23)
c) Not going against the truth (4.25) because it is only the truth that can set you free.

2. When do you presume? 

You presume:
a) When you rely on money to make you independent (5.1)
b) When you think you have everything (5.2)
c) When you think that no one can exercise authority over you (5.3)
d) When you think that you can sin and get away with it (5.4)
e) When you are so certain of the Lord’s forgiveness that you go on committing one sin after another (5.5)
f) When we rely on dishonest wealth (5.80

3. What does sincerity and self control mean?

Sincerity and self control mean being certain about what you believe and being consistent in what you say. One who is sincere does no please everyone or agree with everything people say (5.9 – 5.10)

4. Who is a bad friend? How do you know a bad friend?

A bad friend is:
a) One who is your friend only when things are moving fine for you but would not stand by you in times of trouble (6.8). Beware of such friends. 

5. Who is an undisciplined person?

Anyone who finds the demands of wisdom too hard and is not determined to meet them and they quickly lay them aside (6.20 – 6.21). Be disciplined and you will find wisdom.

Lord Jesus, give me the gift of self confidence, sincerity and self-control. May I always be a true friend and never presume and may I always learn and accept the teaches of wisdom – Amen.
