REFLECTION ON TODAY'S
READING – LIFE AFTER DEATH; A REALITY
reading assures you of the reality of Resurrection – Life after Death.
Second reading tells of God’s assistance in every good works you do.
The gospel refers God as God of the living and not of the dead.
The gospel and
the first reading have a similar – about the reality of the resurrection of the
body or the dead.
reading tells us the story of the seven brothers and their mother who were
arrested and tortured by the king for refusing to defile themselves by eating
the unlawful swine’s flesh. These seven young men and their mother stood by
their faith even when threatened with death because they know and strongly
believed in the resurrection of the dead. And also that what the king is able
to destroy was only their flesh, but can never touch their spirit.
made by the first son was very encouraging. He boldly said to the king,
“What do you intend to ask and hear from
us? For we are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our fathers.”
The second son
also boldly said to the king before he breathed his last,
“You accursed wretch, you dismiss us from
this present life but the king of the universe will raise us up to an
everlasting renewal of life, because we died for his laws.”
HOW DO YOU REACT WHEN YOUR FAITH IS TESTED?
DO YOU STAND BY YOUR FAITH?
IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE TRIBULATIONS
FACED BY THESE YOUNG MEN, WILL YOU DENOUNCE YOU FAITH?
tries to explain to you, the nature of life after death. The Sadducees (those
who don’t believe in life after death - resurrection) were bothered with
worldly things which do not exist in the world to come. Jesus’ response to the
question asked by the Sadducees was a confirmation. He answered them,
“The sons of this age marry and are given
in marriage; but those accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the
resurrection from the dead neither marry nor given in marriage, for they cannot
die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons
of the resurrection.”
