The first reading and the gospel of today all center on one thing, which is Faith. Before I go on with this reflection, I will like to explain the word “FAITH”.  According to Hebrew 11: 1-2, “To have faith is to be sure of the things hoped for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by faith that the people of ancient times won God’s approval”. Faith simply means believing totally in the omnipotence of God. The second reading centers on growing the gift God has given you.

In the first reading, God spoke through prophet Habakkuk, “See how he flags, he whose soul is not at rest, but the righteous man will live by his faithfulness”. This means that faith brings peace and those who don’t have faith have no peace of mind, they flag around in confusion. Always trust in the Lord, come what may!

In the second reading, Paul said, “I am reminding you to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God’s gift is not a spirit of timidity, but the spirit of power, and love and self-control”. Each of us have a gift from God, some people have discovered theirs and are really growing it, some are yet to discover it while some have discovered theirs and allowed to die off. Some have the gift of good voice, counsel, teaching, prayer, etc. Discover your gift and make maximum use of it. It is not to make use of it, rather use it to the glory of God, because many are using their but not to the glory of God.

In the gospel Jesus said to his disciples, “Were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to the mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you”. This means we can achieve anything we want through faith. The people of old obtained God’s approval through faith. Abraham had faith in God when he promised him to give a son even though he was too old. He trusted God to keep his promise, and God never disappointed him.

SIMPLY TAKE YOUR WORRIES AND PROBLEMS TO GOD IN PRAYER AND HAVE FAITH IN HIM AND HE WILL NEVER DISAPPOINT YOU.
