STAND BY THE TRUTH, NO MATTER WHAT IT WILL COST YOU - SUNDAY REFLECTION

14 August, 2016

1st READING (Jeremiah 38: 4-6, 8-10)
THEME: You have born me to be a man of dissension for the land.
2nd READING (Hebrews 12:1-4)
THEME: We shall keep running steadily in the race we have started.
GOSPEL (Luke 12: 49-53)
THEME: I am not here to bring peace but rather division.

Actually, today’s readings especially the gospel are full of mystery. In the first reading, we read about how Jeremiah suffered because of the gospel. He was thrown into a pit full of mud. But in all these humiliations, he never relented in professing the word of God to the people of Israel and God always sees him through.

In the second reading, we are told to take away everything that draws us back especially sin and keep running in the race we have started. Here, we were given an instance with Jesus himself passed through in other to redeem us. He endured the cross disregarding the shamefulness of it, but now he has taken his place at the right of God’s throne. This simply tells us that, “THERE IS NO CROWN WITHOUT A CROSS.”

Just reflect on the life of all the saints, They all passed through fire and blood, but now they are rejoicing in the bosom of the lord.
If they endured these sufferings as mortal men, then we also can. It is just a matter of sacrifice and determination.

EVEN IF STANDING BY THE TRUTH BRINGS ENMITY OR DIVISION BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS AS JESUS SAID IN THE GOSPEL, DON’T WORRY BECAUSE ONE WITH GOD IS MAJORITY.

HAPPY SUNDAY MY WONDERFUL FRIENDS. MAY THE FAVOUR OF GOD PURSUE AND OVERTAKE YOU THIS WEEK. HAVE A BLESSED WEEK.
